Is AI Helping in education or Just Cheating?

The question that has been bouncing around classrooms and social media lately is, is artificial intelligence (AI) really helping students learn, or is it just making cheating easier? On one hand, the rise of AI tools, such as essay generators, chatbots, and math solvers, has led teachers scratching their heads; students are probably figuring out if these tools can really help in scoring them a passing grade.

So, the ultimate question here is—are we truly moving into a new age of educational innovation, or is it just a shiny layer that’s devaluing hard work? Read below this interesting blog to find more.

The Rise of AI in Education

Artificial intelligence is the next good thing in education. And for a good reason, though. In fact, according to a survey, 43% of teachers accepted they have used AI tools in some capacity to enhance learning, from personalized instruction, grading assistance, or creating interactive content for students. The reasons behind this surge are AI’s ability to personalize the learning experience and offer resources that can be used any time of the day.

The Dark Side of AI

Of course, every coin has two sides, so is the case with AI. Even artificial intelligence has certain dark sides to it. The real question that arises is: Is AI encouraging laziness? It’s similar to pulling out the phone and opening an AI tool during an exam to get instant answers. In a blink of an eye, students get their solution without having the need to engage their brains.

In fact, according to The Guardian, over 50 percent of students surveyed admitted to using AI for homework help. While it may seem harmless initially, the excessive use of AI definitely raises a few eyebrows. Are the students truly learning the material or simply making their way through with this AI cheat code?

Experts call this trend intellectual laziness. Even though it's great for student help, there’s a possibility that students might lean on it too much. . After all, learning is not only about getting correct answers every time.

Is AI Helping or Cheating?

The answer is—even though AI is extremely helpful for students in education, it makes things too easy for them to cheat if they are not careful. The ultimate resposnbility lies on both the child and the teacher to ensure artificial intelligence tools are soleley used for learning and not as cheatcodes for bypassing the efforts to learn something.

AI isn’t bad. However, the problem arises when students use it as a shortcut to avoid putting in the work themselves. In short, it's not the technology at fault, but the way it's used. Moreover, according to a survey, 60 percent of teachers believe that AI has the potential to help students improve their learning outcomes—but only if used responsibly. The key is balance.

Takeaway

In conclusion, the use of AI technology isn't inherently bad or good. But it's the way it's used by students that defines whether it's actually helping or cheating. Your answer lies in whether the students are using it to learn and improve their knowledge or if they are  using it as a crutch to avoid thinking. At the end of the day, education is not about getting the answers but understanding through the entire journey.
