Macrocephaly is a condition of the enlarged head in babies and this includes the scalp, the cranial bone, and the contents of the cranium. A baby who suffers from Macrocephaly has a head larger than of an ordinary baby. The following are the causes of macrocephaly in babies:

1. Pathological Macrocephaly

Pathologic macrocephaly may be due to:

a. Megalencephaly: A condition where a person has an enlarged brain.

b. Hydrocephalus: A condition where cerebrospinal fluid abnormally accumulates in the brain. This condition does not require treatment as the amount of fluid is not much in quantity.

c. Cranial hyperostosis: A condition where the bone of the head overgrows.

Pathological macrocephaly can lead to further disorders in future and other symptoms are visible like projectile vomiting, unusual eye movements. That's why high medical attention is needed.

2. Benign Familial Macrocephaly: It is an inherited condition under which a baby has an abnormally large head because of other family members with big heads. Kids suffering from benign familial macrocephaly

won’t experience symptoms other than having a larger head.

That's All folks
