The best way to stay properly hydrated during your pregnancy and after is to drink plenty of water every day. Try to get at least 8 to 12 glasses daily.

To prevent dehydration, increase fluid intake until the urine becomes clear or very pale yellow. Consider carrying a water bottle or taking frequent water breaks. Women who exercise or spend time outside in intense heat should increase their fluid intake even more.

Buyer beware – sports drinks are not always electrolytes

Please be aware that drinks like Gatorade, Powerade and all those other ‘sports lolly water’ drinks are not electrolytes. Nowhere on the bottle does it even say electrolyte. They are just over-commercialized cordials, with a tiny bit of added salt and lots of colouring. Give them a wide berth!
