Nutritional needs vary from person to person. But majorly, they vary with age and gender. A 60- year old man may not require the same things what a 30-year old woman need and vice versa. An unhealthy diet on a routine basis can lead to some serious chronic diseases because the physical activity of an old person is not as high as a young person. Following is a list of things essential for people of age group 45-70:
1. Cereals, legumes, a variety of colourful vegetables, poultry and lean meats, fish and eggs should be included in their daily diet.
Low-fat milk and dairy products made of the same type of milk should be included.
2. The salt content in the diet should be low. High salt or spice content can cause high blood pressure.
3. Limit the intake of foods that contain high saturated fat such as pizza, fatty meat, cheese, potato chips, etc.
4. Replace high saturated fat foods with monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fat foods. Use olive or mustard oil instead of refined oil.
5. Limit the sugar content in your daily diet. Don't eat or drink things with added sugar such as soft drinks, fruit drinks, etc.
6. Avoid drinking alcohol as much as possible because it affects the liver of our body and liver of an old person is not that fit as compared to a young person.
7. Drink lots of water every day. It prevents blood from getting thick. Moreover, it keeps you hydrated in the summer season.
