The Frisians are an ethnic group indigenous to the coastal regions of the Netherlands and northwestern Germany. They derive their name from the Frisii, an ancient Germanic tribe which inhabited the northern coastal areas in what today is the northern Netherlands.The Frisii lived in the coastal area stretching roughly from present-day Bremen to Bruges, including many of the smaller offshore islands. The Frisians are closely related to the Dutch, Northern Germans, and the English and speak Frisian languages divided by geographical regions
